Cliffs along the Cap (cape) de Creus on the Costa Brava (wild coast) seen while on the ferry from Roses to Cadaqués and back. This is the geography that inspired the rocky shores in Dalì’s work. In his youth he summered in Cadaqués, which would later attract many artists and writers of the modern era. This landscape was formed at the same time as the Pyrénées, with sheets of metamorphic rock being pushed up. The end result is layers upon layers of metamorphic and igneous rock which were created under immense pressure and have been battered over the ages by the Tramuntana (north) wind.
